Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), encompassing Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a complex, multifactorial disorder with a significant impact on public health. Rodent models have played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of IBD pathogenesis, immune responses, and therapeutic interventions. The review delves into the various rodent models, evaluating their strengths and discussing the relevance of these models in recapitulating human IBD, emphasizing their contributions to elucidating immune mechanisms, studying environmental factors, and testing therapeutic interventions. The article aims to provide a critical assessment of the current state of rodent models in IBD research, offering valuable insights for future investigations aimed at advancing our understanding and treatment of IBD.
