Aims: to determine the relationship between hip, knee and ankle joint angle in the paretic side during Sit To Stand with dynamic balance of hemiplegic stroke patients.
Study Design: observational analytic with cross sectional study
Place and Duration of Study: Laboratory of Gait Analysis of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of Soetomo Teaching Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, between June until November 2016.
Methodology: Sixteen (n=16) hemiplegic stroke patients with 1st time stroke attack were assinged (male=11; female=5) with age between 44-70 years old. Marker was place at the skin at 4th metatarsal, ateral maleolus, calcaneal, knee joint, trochanter, and lateral part of 6th cervical vertebra. The Joint angle was measure in 3 position, start, peak and end. After the recording we measure the Berg Balance Scale to asess their dynamic balance. Intervention wa not applicable.
Results: There were significantly negative correlation between knee angle on the paretic side during start (r=-0,625; p=0,01) and peak (r=-0,557; p=0,025) with dynamic balance of hemiplegic stroke patient, there were also significant post if correlation between ankle joint angle on the paretic side during peak (r=0,540; p=0,031) with dynamic balance of hemiplegic stroke patients.
Conclusion: the negative correlation between knee angle during start and peak means that the greater knee flexion angle on the paretic side the dynamic balance were worst. And on ankle, the positive correlation means that the greater ankle joint angle on the paretic side during STS the balance was getting better.
